A few minutes ago, I lit a candle and cried for the memory of a man who has been my greatest inspiration since the day The Discovery Channel first introduced me to his beautiful spirit and soul. I feel nothing but pride when I say "I love you, Joseph Carey Merrick", because it is nothing but the truth. I hope that wherever you are now, you are happy and without pain. You were beyond wonderful, and I hope and pray that I may be able to know your courage and strength. God bless you forever.

Also, when you say the Discovery Channel, are you referring to the Curse/Plight of the Elephant Man 2003 documentary? If so, that's how I first heard about him as well. Most people seem to have known of him from the movie though.
