"'Tis true my form is something odd -
But blaming me, is blaming God,
Could I create myself anew
I would not fail in pleasing you.

If I could reach from Pole to Pole
Or grasp the ocean with a span,
I would be measured by the soul -
The mind is the standard of the man."
Issac Watts, as quoted frequently by Joseph Carey Merrick; artist, philosipher, and patron of the arts

He gave his soul for Rock N' Roll! - Paul Williams, Phantom of the Paradise
But, Marian, I don't SPEAK Chinese! - Remiel
You; lighten up. You; big trouble. You; get in the car. - Rick O' Connell "The Mummy Returns"
How right you are, my dear! Very well said. He was all of that, and more.
He was kickass, to put it blandly.

Indeed so. I've been saying the same thing since I was thirteen years old
I did! Yes, it is lovely indeed. Lovely that such a site even exists, dedicated solely to Joseph Merrick.
Well, it is a very special experience, to find that I just might be not as weird at that point as I've always thought.
Yes, my classmates used to give me strange looks when seeing my doodles and reading Merrick's name everywhere. :giggle: (at first I wrote "John" everywhere, lol. Because in the movie he was named John. :lmao:) Before "discovering" Joseph, my schoolbooks were all signed Edward Scissorhands and Quasimodo, haha! But, in the end noone can beat Joseph. :aww:

You wrote fanfictions? Wonderful! Yes, please, do send those to me. I would be delighted to read them! :excited: Here's my emailaddress: nuqwijatlh@hotmail.com.

I wish I had the guts I have now when I was in High School. Mostly I tried to keep my Merrick-aholism a secret, because I was pretty low on the HS pecking order. But I made up for it by doing multiple essays, poems, history, and art projects about him.
When I entered art school, he became my modle of choice.

Hooray! Thank you so, so much for sending me your email address. It's always such a thrill to meet new Merrick fans. I'll send you a letter tonight.
Pity you didn't! I could not make my Merrick-addiction a secret even if I wanted to; I couldn't think of anything else those days, and I drew portraits of him in almost every cahier! :lmao:
...Perhaps I should dig into my old schoolstuff and show you some. :giggle:
I never actualy wrote anything about him. I did however make an elaborate story about a boy inspired by Joseph. A boy about my age (15 back then), in a physical condition similar to Merrick's, but in present times.

Wonderful that you chose Joseph as your model! Weren't your teachers surprised about that? :

Thanks!! I'm looking forward to read your email-message! :aww:)

I know. I just didn't have the guts I have today.

Yes! I would love to see some of your Merricky work. Though I have my friend Brooke (birdofyore), it's always a joy to see I'm not the only one turning him into an art form.

By the way, did you get the email I sent you? It has a short narrative. If not, then perhaps I may have misspelled your address (d'oh!)
Pity!
But you can make up for that big time, now!

Yes! I'll certainly show you some of my good old Merrick-stuff. I am starting to dig through my high-school stuff this night, to see if I can find any, lol. If I do, I'll scan it and send it to you right away! :aww:~

Yep! That email has landed safely in my box! It was fantastic!!!!!
A note beforehand, for future emailing, lol: Please don't be worried if I do not reply immediately; I can just be so lame sometimes in checking my mailbox.... :(
